MIRROR TO MIRROR THROUGH MYSELF I SEE YOU. YOU SEE ME*
My work has always been introspective, dealing with my personal experiences/encounters within the realms of my environment, tangible/intangible.
The present body of work has slowly evolved over a period of three years, consisting of an intimate interaction between my children and myself. Children’s literature/illustration merges together with my imagery, aptly portraying my present state of being. The overwhelming experiences of nurturing and caring for my children totally overtook artistic/aesthetic sensibility.
Drawing from observation all along, I started photographing my children and incorporated these with storybook illustrations/cartoon characters. The scale/nature of drawings again shows my limitations of physical/virtual space and time; a record of precious memories of an intimate interaction between my children and myself: through you I see myself, through myself I see you.
For Faiz and Manaal with love.
